Introduction to Japanese Program

 

The Japanese program aims to foster high-level talents in Japanese by having them become proficient in Japanese communication, broaden their horizon, and become efficient in management.

 

Upon graduation, students are expected to master Japanese language and become skilled in the professional world. They will possess fluent Japanese listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation skills. They will have good communication, strong critical thinking skills, and creativity in relation to their field. They will also have good humanistic characteristics, strong practical ability, adaptability, and social responsibility. They can comprehensively apply their knowledge and skills in areas like international trade, education and culture while working in the positions of translation, international communication, business and management.

Introduction to Japanese Program

 

At Jiangnan University, Japanese has been taught since the early 1980s, but it was not until 2002 that the Department of Japanese was developed. Since then, the department has worked diligently to bring high standards to its programs and students.

 

At present, the department has 20 teachers. They include 3 associate professors, 13 lecturers, and 4 teachers from Japan. 7 teachers have doctoral degrees, 70% of whom have an overseas doctorate. In recent years, aside from perfectly completing the teaching tasks, the department faculty has been active in academic research and made great achievements. The department has hosted 6 provincial-level and above projects and various research projects. Every year, the department faculty publish a great number of research papers in national and international journals, academic monographs, and course books.

 

The program’s main courses include Advanced JapaneseJapanese WritingTranslation Theory and PracticeBusiness JapaneseBusiness Communication and NegotiationIntroduction to Japan etc.

 

In 2015, 6% of the graduates have studied abroad for further study while 21% did postgraduate studies at famous universities in China. The program graduates mostly will work in organizations such as the international trade department and companies in the Yangtze River Delta; foreign businesses; multinational companies; governments of all levels; international departments of companies and governments; universities and colleges; middle schools and primary schools, etc. They will work in the areas of foreign economics and trade, business management, Japanese translation and teaching etc.
